I only played 0 and kiwami. Xbox controllers always either end up sold or broken though i completed 0 with kb/m. Kiwami left me kind of disappointed with 0 being my first game but i like saejima so want to play that one

It's a cliche thing to say but Kiwamis were done in a way that kinda glossed over a lot of what made the PS2 era titles special in the first place
They're "okay" for what they were trying to do (create an accessible modern way to tell those parts of Kiryu's story and to contextualize new elements to the franchise retroactively), but if you care about the series in any way at all you should find the originals (it also makes the 1-2-3 transition less jarring)

Kiwami 1 is definitely the 2nd weakest imo. I didn't like Yakuza 4 at all although admittedly Saejima's part was okay.
A lot of people pick Kiwami 2 as their favorite, personally mine is Yakuza 6 because I like the Hiroshima setting and plot.
Yakuza 0 was a really, really good prequel imo. It's hard to beat.

Hokotu no ken : Lost paradise
It has everything you want in a Yakuza game plus a nice reimagine of the anime's story with Ken.
And yes it's a Yakuza game, for those who don't know it , means you are not as big of a fan of the series.
