Yesterday I was re-watching the episode Stare Master of Friendship is Magic and noticed that Fluttershy mentioned coloring (as in coloring books) as one of slumber party activities. I immediately thought it would be useful to imitate it and a short talk with my imaginary Twilight Sparkle confirmed that it could be an useful exercise in patience which is a part of the virtue of kindness which is necessary for friendship.
Incidentally I also found this audio series on Pirke de-Rabi Eliezer which I planned to re-read. Fluttershy stressed the quietness of the activity and it would probably benefit me more if I did it in silence but I think it would require superhuman strength, so I will just stick to having something playing in the background for now.
I'm not sure how should I start. I don't think I even own any crayons now and I know there are many kinds, so which ones would be the best for a beginner (my motor skills were always dreadful, so I don't have fond memories of coloring as a child)? Also, should I buy coloring books or just print out patterns from the internet (the cost would probably be comparable, from what I've seen, coloring books are very cheap)? Is it better to opt for adult coloring books or the ones for children? I don't want any adult themes and I generally enjoy stuff for children more, but I think adult in this case just means more complex which could be fun.
Does any of you do coloring? How do you do it, what books/materials do you use? Is it something you'd recommend?
