There are people walking around, that hate your confidence. (not ego).
They don't want the best for you but want you to be under their control.
A good example are abusive mothers, they don't want their child to be critically minded and strong, they would prefer him to be ignorant and scared.
They would shame for any behavior that goes against the manipulation, and because the victim often seeks approval from the person in an authority position he will adjust his behavior accordingly.
This happens in many relationships, especially at work.
There are good-hearted men and women entering the workforce, that are being subjected to brainwashing.
Managers aren't usually the brightest people, but they have entire books on how to brainwash and manipulate employees, sadly it's not hard to do, especially when the person was traumatized before, or has simply never experienced or seen this kind of evil behavior.

Fatherless generation.
artworks-000303464709-psrnwi-t500x500.jpg

Coco portrays it well
[SPOILERS]
It takes one absent father in a family tree to create a model of parenting that's disconnecting the child from his masculine and goes on for generations
They are angry at the father and subconsciously prevent the child from ever becoming like him, because he could be abusive/cheat or like in the movie leave the family

they're angry at him but deep down still miss him
in the movie he's erased from the altar and his daughter hates music

It took 3 generations to fix the family but imagine what happens when irl there is no happy ending

the family's men are often cucks alcoholics and the women choose them so because of the aversion to masculine

there is also a natural tendency for women to hold onto children and not letting go

There are tribes when the son is only with the mother till 12 and then leaves her to spend all the time with his father hunting fishing etc.
they also often have rituals of "becoming a man"
because they know how important it is for a boy to have the right upbringing at the right time to complete his journey to adulthood

Yes, single mother homes are a disaster.

But a topic I want to touch upon is that the rate of single fathers have been steadily rising too, it's not as bad as the single mother epidemic we have currently, but it is still a thing, and as a person who grew up without a mother and was raised solely by his father, I can tell you that lacking a mother is also awful, you need both parents in your life.
