In my opinion and the short answer is that if your amount hinders you you should upgrade, if that's not the case you shouldn't. Let me explain:
It all really depends what you use your PC for (just to clarify I have a GTX 1060 3GB). If you play older/lower end games on lower resolutions you don't need much Vram and can get away with low amounts. While with the latest and greatest games at high resolutions can get pretty demanding.
That was all pretty generic information but imo in 2025 you need atleast 10GB of Vram to comfortably play the latest games at 1440p at decent framerates.
