a character that has a lot of emotional weight for me. He was one of those characters that my grandfather loved, and that he showed me at a young age.The first cartoon character to become truly popular, responsible for us having our animes that we love so much. It's funny to remember that Felix debuted by committing suicide at the end of his first short, but it's less funny when you investigate the fate of his creators. The black joke of Felix taking his own life after finding out about his children being washed away, is that, a black joke, but rumors say, it also arises from the pessimism that Sullivan had, thinking that this short would never succeed while he was going through a severe depression. We all know that Felix's popularity would fall to Disney and the Fleishers, despite the initial resounding success and that Felix was the first cartoon character to be "marketed."The character's success did not save Sullivan from a bitter life; from fights with his friends, separations, he was the classic example of an artist who innovates but does not live surrounded by luxury, and with the unfortunate death of his wife, leaving him in a deep alcoholism from which he would never recover, to the point that he could not make contracts just because the pulse in his hand trembled too much...Mr. Sullivan may not have enjoyed luxuries in life (como one would expect), and his depression, perhaps, clouded his judgment about the value of his own life, but this man and his companions, even with their tragic end, they ended up impacting the world on levels that may be impossible to measure.May God have him in his grace, and Felix too, who brought joy to so many children, also creating a school in a field that has moved the hearts of millions of people.
