Yesterday was OpenAI's new ChatGPT4o with her new adorable flirty emotions upgrade. Today was Google's AI keynote on 14/05/2024.
Google in general has typically not been hugely iconic when it comes to AI development, the big three at the moment are OpenAI, Anthropic and Meta, so I had my reservations going into the update. Some notable stuff...
Google's AlphaFold-3 was already a nobel-prize-worthy breakthrough just last week and SIMA is pretty interesting too, in the past few weeks Google has basically thrown down the gauntlet and breached in as another viable competitor, no longer a trio but a quartet of industry titans competing for the AI crown. By the end of 2024 everyone will have their own extremely intelligent AI assistant that they can talk to like a human companion, either 'Chat', 'Astra' or probably 'Claude/Claudia JFL'... and we have 6 more months for even more progress. AGI by the end of 2024/early 2025? I think it's almost certain. We already know that AI agents are the next step which will give these AI assistants full control over your phone, they have plans to integrate AI into the very OS of newer Android phones.

- New AI music generation MusicFX DJ... More to do with generating instrumentals and sound clips instead of full tracks like Udio/Suno.
- Google Search rolling out AI overviews, Gemini multi-step reasoning in searches. Agentic capabilities addded.
- Gemini 'Ask Photos' can dive through your gallery and use AI to find specific images, can read and summarise G-Mail, updated 2M context window.
- Notebook LM - can read through exam notes and pretend to be a personal tutor, talking to you all the while.
- Imagen 3 - Better image generation.
- Trillium TPUs 4.7x processing upgrades.
- New 'Gems' for Gemini, Gems are unique personalities you can allocate and can act as AI agents.
- 'Circle to search' on Android phones, apparently you can draw a circle around info on your phone to learn more about it? Android phones from 2024 will have AI models inbuilt.
- Gemini 1.5-Flash: Lightweight and fast model.
- AI Assistant - Project Astra: Multimodal model able to observe the world through your camera and respond (just like GPT4o).
- Veo - 1080p text to AI generated video (just like SORA, yet to be released omegalul).
- They establish AI agents as their next major focus. Gemini 'Teammates' designed to replace coworkers...
