Depends on the language. For example, since I knew to read in Spanish, learning to read in Portuguese took me 3 weeks, the sentence structure is really similar, so are the words. I can read wikipedia pages in Portuguese, read newspapers and even some literature, however I cannot understand the language when it is spoken, and I cannot properly pronounce the words. Chances are, I won't ever need to do so, but if I get bored enough I may attempt to improve on that. German however, took me over 3 months to learn to read, as certain aspects of the grammar were quite complicated. I'd need to study more to perfect them but I lack both the patience and the motivation, learning to read is sufficient for me in most part.

My nationality isn’t France even though I identify with the culture and language. I’m not sure why you would feel proud to be Anglo though. Your feminists are the worst and have won the war. American feminism is slowly infecting France and other countries as well. Soon it’ll be over.
