So I was reading about African seafaring
And I thought of something: a game/story that's basically the east African equivalent of One Piece. Young boy on the coast of the Ajuraan empire clad in a Sarong loses his father in the Portuguese-Somali conflicts. Refusing to accept his death, he strives to be a shipbuilder and sail the seas, assured that his father wasn't dead but kidnapped by Portugal or the Axumites, since his body was never found. In this adventure, he sails across the African coastline going from Ajuraan to Mombasa to the west African Gold Coast. Along the way he picks up allies, each representing the seafaring culture of their region. His first ally he meets on an Mtepe in Kenya (picrel)

This Mtepe farer is seen as a bandit by his local community for building ships out of stolen parts and spending his days fucking with villagers. In truth, he's on a similar mission to the main character: to sail the seas but not to find a parent, he just wants to be rich and prove himself by becoming an Indian Habsha (African mercenaries who controlled land and slaves). The MC finds this dishonourable but decides to make allies to fulfill his wishes, since he needs a muscle on the team. Together they sail to Madagascar where they get into naval engagements with portugues sailors. Here the Mtepe fella proves his skills by fending off several ships on his own using makeshift firearms made out of stolen goods. The MC is impressed by this show of power, and makes him a permanent member of his ship now named "Cadaaladda". Making it to Madagascar, they come across my shitty knock-off version of Nami: Ranavalona (based on the actual mad monarch of Merina at the time) who is a noble
I-I don't know where to go from here...
