Discussion Is anyone else not into "nerdy" interests

Every person I'm around seems to like Warhammer 40k and is into dungeons and dragons. I have 0 interest in these things, I find them super cringe and never really got exposed to them. Maybe being a nerd is an identity to them so they adopt these things. I guess they may even consider me a "normie" given I don't really do anything thats attached to any group or anything.

Does anyone else have this experience?

I played it once, but it was just a bunch of guys simping for a foid. You're not really missing much. I don't understand why they even play it, I think they are adopting the role of being a nerd and using it to socialize more than they actually like it.

I thought the entire point of the Imperium of Man is that they're a complete 180 from what the Emperor wanted and represents everything bad about human behavior with their government fittingly being an amalgamation of everything about authoritarian and totalitarian regimes combined with religious zealotry. There is a message imbedded there but of course people casually getting into the franchise would find it appealing more so for the Space Marines looking cool.
Ironically enough even the people who try to look for themes in media would miss out on this because all they see is people gushing over genetically modified child supersoldiers and assume this is all the IP is about and there's no deeper substance there. Media literacy also means engaging with the fiction you consume and not dismissing it for arbitrary reasons that are parroting what others tell you to think, so you can actually think for yourself and develop your opinions on that specific piece of media without the tastes of others trying to influence and cloud your judgement to an intrusive degree.

I played D&D once. Half the session was taken up by one guy and his banter. Talk of double assholes and all. It's a joke he picked up from silicon valley. And I was the only one who got the reference.

I'm not sure if cosmology and evopsych count as nerdy interests, but yeah, I don't like the ones you mentioned as much either.
