Entire eschatology is dumb. Some religious ethics are dumb.
But religious laws and rules aren't. They were written and compiled by thousands of men over the last 20~30 thousands of years and all came from very close observation of human behavior.
Also all """modern""" and secular laws are based on religious laws and ethics.
The "wisdom" and "go good" rules are good but they are quite outdated and extremist are weird... I can understand worshipping a guy that has an army and can make you disappear, but why worship nothing even harder than whatever else exist.
Religions produced cultures, cultures produced societies. What would have happened, say, if the West was rooted in post modernism and atheism instead of Christianity?
Put aside the question of the existence of an objective moral standard for a moment, religions are thousands of years of compiled human wisdom. The laws, the commandments, the stories are the way they are for a reason. To produce stability, order, harmony, meaning, and happiness.
A society based on atheism or antitheism will degenerate into nothing and destroy itself from within.
