Discussion Is seinen mostly fake deep compared to shonen?

Obviously both have their peaks and valleys but more often than not, senin relies on cramming in violence, nudity/rape etc to seem edgy and mature. It can still be enjoyable but it rarely actually tackles "difficult" subject matter. Most of it is basically edgy shonen

It's similar to indie comics or pulp fantasy. "Bro what if superman raped somebody! What if aragon was a psychopath"

Not just Seinen. A lot of "mature" content nowadays just teeters on the most surface level shit to get a bad rating then does fuck all with it. Ok the character got gang raped by 8 bulldogs, is that important to the plot? Shock value always ruins good stories. On the other hand shounen is usually shallow as fuck and focuses more on cool visuals but the simple life lessons you do get from them are genuinely useful when you think about it. That nuance is very important when giving good advice. Seinen, when it hits, can also give great advice but it's usually far more obvious and elaborately planned. Either way still better than YA novels or whatever shit American comic publishers are funding these days. "Omg [popular property] did cocaine!! This is so crazy!!"

Bastard, shamo, jagaaan, ubel blatt have a fair bit off the top of my head

Most of the popular ones or the better ones rather lie vagabond, Finland saga, 20thcb don't rely on it as much

But if you read alot it becomes common

You can't just read jagaaan and expect it to be mature or deep
