May be that started later, when resources became scarce and people started to migrate, they need to fight each other, in that case patriarchy must arise.

When there is no scarcity of resources (less people + more food) and you don't need to strive for anything, everything is lovey-dovey, sunshine and butterflies, matriarchy will persist.
