As neets, I realized that we all have a lot of free time on our hands, and we basically use it for anything to keep our minds distracted and occupied, be it anime, games, mangas, songs, YouTube videos, social media etc wasting basically 24 hours each day on devices and just to sleep and do it all over again. Like, why not just invest some of that free time in something you're passionate about and try to be good at that thing?
I came across the "10000 hours rule by Malcom Gladwell," and he stated that "the key to achieving true expertise in any skill is simply a matter of practicing, albeit in the correct way, for at least 10 000 hours." That's basically 541.667 days, approximately 2 years of deliberate practice to achieve master in an area you're focused on. Yes, it's easier said than done, but take a look on the bright side you'll be a master at your craft!!! And I believe that's really cool, so for me that would be chess. I'm
not practicing 12 hours every day like other top players, but I'm making every effort to fortify my will and get all the tools to practice effectively and hone my skills. Why chess, and why am I doing this? Well, I'm motivated by the money involved in the game and also the character/ title I'd have and become when I become the best or at least top 20 in the world. When you're at 2500 Elo ratings you'll get the title of Grandmaster (it's a lifetime title), which basically means your in the top 1000 players in the world, and for money, they're weekly tournaments all year long on chess.com with prize funds ranging from 2500usd to 10000usd, and to mention overboard tournaments (OBT) prize funds are rarely below 10000usd it's usually above. So I'm thinking I could reach the height where I can win tournaments from the comfort of my home and collect the 2500 - 10000 usd weekly. One can also offer coaching services and earn extra. There's just a lot of money in the game if you're seriously good. Like a lot!!!
I'm already passionate about it and I think it would be a great use of my time to at least try and reach the highest level possible or die trying. Going forward, I just need an iron will, a decent laptop to analyze thousands of tactics, openings, pass games, and sufficient self-study materials etc. I'm currently spending at least 4 hours every day on chess. Yeah, it's nowhere close to the 12 hours a day regime, but I'm getting there, and that's how I am seeing it. Instead of wasting away my life on useless pleasures, I'll turn my free time into a mission I hope to achieve. You should too!!! That can be anything for you; drawing, animation, coding, YouTube filming, competitive gaming etc, whatever just put in the time (deliberate practice) and reap the sweet rewards down the line!
Wish me luck guys while I make my journey on this arduous path!!!
