What Operating System do you have on your computer ? :feelsdetective:

Personally, i going to switch to Linux soon :feelscowboy:
ive been on w*ndows for too long :feelseye: and i'd like to use more open source software, as i dont like relying on corporations :feelsjuice:

That being said, i still need to find the right distribution :feelsdetective:
A friend of mine told me to start with Ubuntu since its my first time installing a new OS :feelspepo:

What about you ? :feelsdetective:
For those of you who switched to open source OS (not necessarly Linux), what would you recommand to me ? :feelsdetective:

I only use my computer for simple tasks like browsing the internet, downloading and sorting lots of files, and some text editing :feelsstudy:

GNU Guix. Technically not really Linux since Linux is not Free Software. It contains a modified version of the Linux Kernel without the proprietary bobs that Torvalds has put on it to make it exploitable by the CIA niggers.

Well, it is for me, but not that much. As you can see, I literally posted my personal desktop here, even though it would be troublesome if the police knew that were me lol.
>But im pretty bad with computers :mmm:
Don't bother with it. Guix is not beginner-friendly. Even for experienced Linux users, installing Guix can be challenging because there's no GUI or something like that. You have to do it all by hand, editing you scheme files to set up services etc. It's not something a beginner would want to do. Maybe in the future you can grow some interested in the OS, I hope so.
>Do you think a beginer could install it ?:mmm:
Honestly, I don't think so. But who knows. I find it harder to install than Arch Linux, specially because you have to mess around with a language called Scheme to set up everything. That's something that Emacs users are used to, though.
>(I have all the time and motivation necessary, i just dont use computers a lot and i never studied CompSci before :mmm:)
Bother not. I would only recommend Guix if you really like things like LISP, Emacs, DevOps, deterministic compilation etc.

tl;dr if you just want something to access the internet, watch anime and maybe play some game from Steam, just use Endeavour, Ubuntu, Linux Mint, Garuda or anything. In the beginning, the only thing that will really impact you will be the UI. Then after sometime you will discover that the UI is the less significant part since you can make any Linux look like you want just by installing a desktop environemnt, window manager, changing menu bars, xfce/gtk themes etc.

Yeah, in terms of entry-level content, Ubuntu will probably be the best option. But once you understand better how things work, you will probably hop out to other distros, the famous "distrohopping", where you just install every distro in the existence just to see what they do differently. That's the most interesting part because you will already have some knowledge to judge a distro, how to use it properly etc.
Also, the Arch-based distros (Manjaro, Arch, Artix, Endeavour) has the most extense documentation and forum topics of all distros, even more than Ubuntu and Debian. Arch community is very engaged, so it's almost certain that you will find a tutorial or forum topic about X that you want to do in your computer.

Enjoy the ride, habibi.
