Reactions undermine the collaborative aspect of this community. Instead of saying "I agree/disagree because [blank]" people just leave an emoji and do not contribute to the discussion. Remove reactions so people say something instead of leaving virtual updoots
I gotta agree with you. Sadly though, many people enjoy the likes because it feeds their dopamine preceptors and nothing will likely change.

We have all the time in the world to be here. You might just think something meta once in a while

Thanks I thought I was the only one. I turned off all reaction notifications anyways. Feels better now that I'm able to focus my attention onto productive replies

I disagree. Reacts are everything

In that way its even easier to distinguish coalmaxxers from normal users

The reason postmaxxing isn't that excessive here is that all these people just posting stuff like

"Brutal"
"K"
"Dnrd"

For postcount can be eternally traced back to being shit users just by checking their ratio

Next suggestion is opening a "sewers" section here aswell so people can spam endless single word replies?

I don't always feel like leaving a reply but I like to lurk at times. I don't see a downside to reacts, it gives everyone dopamine and is a much better way to gauge how good a persons posts are roughly by their post:rep score. I've never been on .is but the forum posters here typically seem sentient while .is posters that migrate here seem braindead, no offense to them. I've learned a good bit from posters here about philosophy, hacking and other topics. I hope I've been able to help people learn a little bit about random topics instead of my posts being mindlessly smashing my keyboard too.

I turned off the reaction notifications too. It was driving me nuts getting 10+ notifications and all it is are smiley faces, angry faces, or sad faces.

.is will always be superior as long as it doesn't have a reddit tier reaction system.
But I must admit, waking up to 20 notification here compared to at most 8 in .is is dopaminefuel.

its a double edged sword really
by removing reacts you either encourage more discussion because people cant just leave a like (but then again people can just say "i agree" and nothing else) or enable more people who spam and post one liners because they cant have their reaction score harmed by that, which makes postmaxxing easier

The kind of person who would spam would also be the kind of person to not care about their reaction score and vice versa, just look at the Cafe at its current state, lol.
The culture you seem to describe here and want can only come from moderators doing their job...

I have a theory.
People don't post here because they're NEETs, they just want the dopamine hits from upvotes (reactions) since they treat it like a substitute for their lack of sex life giving them pleasure and validation IRL.
