Yea I like mystery thriller VNs lul.
Do you mean to say you haven't played the ones in your library and are asking for recs on them or you've played all of these games and want more VNs? The latter is above but out of the ones you've got I enjoyed Steins;Gate the most. Baldr Sky is quite good and I've heard a lot of good things about Muv-Luv but I've yet to play it.

thanks, I have read Umineko`s manga about like half of the entire thing i think. Its awesome, i will continue at some point. I have the zero escape trilogy and danganronpa 2. I will check them all out thanks

I try to stay away from bad localizations but I guess they infested everywhere

every translation is localization to some degree, there are just aspects that can't be properly translated. there's no way around learning japanese if you want to read the real, unaltered version

every translation is localization to some degree, there are just aspects that can't be properly translated. there's no way around learning japanese if you want to read the real, unaltered version

well, do you suggest to learn japanese or just giving up on VNs? Good translations are enough for me at the moment. Maybe in the future, I`ll learn some japanese if my passion for vns, manga,anime, jav etc continues.

Agreed, they lose so much when translated. I am not a native english speaker, imagine how much content is lost if I read fan translations in my own language. Double translation lol, they dont even translate from japanese, they translate english translation.....

English is also my second language and I started watching stuff in english because I hated how they translated it to german... and translating ENG to GER should be rather easy...

I wish more VNs were translated into Arabic but they're too niche. The one I can think of is 999 from الحلم المتجدد lol

true, but studios need money. Tourists are their prime target these days. Nowadays VNs are popular enough to be impossible to gatekeep so you have to stick with the older ones for the so called "authentic" experience

If you're into murder mysteries, I can't recommend Kara no Shojo enough. It was recently relicensed and now it is known as The Shell part I - Inferno. It's actually a trilogy, the second part just got released as The Shell part 2 - Purgatorio on Steam. Keep in mind that the steam versions are censored, they removed a lot of content to avoid them getting yeeted off Steam. There is a free official patch for the Steam version, super easy to install, if you're interestd, I'll send you the link for the patch. The third visual novels has yet to be released, but it will probably come out next year as The shell part 3 - Heaven. and I cannot wait.

With the rise of chatgpt, i think it should be more common. I am aware it wouldnt be a perfect translation but it can be enough for some people and short simple things.

I recommend CLANNAD with Tomoyo After, interesting and heartbreaking stories. Tomoyo also featured a bit of ecchi as I remember. Maitetsu was fine but a bit boring sometimes.

Visual Novels are supposed to be long. I rec Tsukihime, Kagetsu Tohya, Fate Ataraxia.

After looking through the thread I didn't see any mention of Saya no Yuta or The Song of Saya. So I recommend it for the horror elements in it.

I played all Danganronpa games. Some detective games like Ace Attorney if you count them too. Those detective ones from Suda51, the Silver Case. I finished the first AI Somnium Files game. The Zero Escape series.

The first and actual visual novel I played was Katawa Shoujo where you can date disabled girls. I just remember one was missing a leg and had a prosthetic leg and another one had burn marks. I think there was a deaf girl too. I don’t remember the others.

Oh, and Corpse Party too. The first game had some action but the second one was just a novel if I remember correctly.

So my first one at 16 was Corpse Party and then Katawa Shoujo not that long after. I probably started playing the other games I listed 3 years later.
