TIMELINE from MAY to NOVEMBER 2017
PRELUDE (early MAY)
In a secret meeting that took place in an undisclosed place within Marawi, the Maute terrorist brothers along with the top wanted terrorist Isnilon Hapilon (picture below) prepare the battleground for what it would be the biggest urban battle in Southeast Asia since Vietnam War and Indochina Wars: the battle of Marawi. Despite Filipino army intended to arrest Hapilon during the reported meeting in Marawi City without fully knowing the terrorists' intentions, ASG-Maute managed to foil the government operation through a quick succession of attacks targeting various military objectives in and around Marawi (including the raid over a local military base), hurriedly executing their main plan: establish one of the first !S footholds in Southeast Asia through the seizure of physicaly territory, starting with Marawi: a city with one of the largest Muslim populations in the Philippines.
