I saw a post on r/NEET a few days ago arguing that advocating for being NEET is a trap. I understand the reasoning behind this perspective, but I believe that most people should experience a temporary NEET period in their lives. This can help them figure out if they either have the means to continue living this way or truly want to pursue this lifestyle longer term. If you're constantly breaking down and freaking out, it's understandable that being NEET might not be appropriate for you at this time.

Personally, I went through a challenging period where becoming NEET was a better choice compared to what I was originally forced to do. Even though I wasn't in the best mental state, being NEET provided a better overall situation for me. Ultimately, NEET is just an acronym, and its meaning can be personalized to fit your situation. It shouldn't be worn as a badge but rather seen as a means of bettering yourself or escaping modern norms.

For those who are mentally ill or physically disabled, becoming NEET might seem like an easier option. I've been a NEET for over a decade, and I would only advocate for this lifestyle if you know exactly what you're getting into and can financially support yourself or have someone to support you. I've seen many NEETs crack under the pressure of long-term isolation or lack of control over their thoughts due to external factors. If this happens, you need to reevaluate if this lifestyle is truly for you.

Many of us are on the right track, but this way of living needs to be handled appropriately to avoid worsening your situation due to poor decisions. Believe in and do what's best for you, but be cautious not to get too deep or consumed by this lifestyle, as it could ruin an opportunity to simply relax away from the working world. Thoughts?

I agree that people should try it out atleast once, but for it be a long term lifestyle they really need to think how sustainable it is in their case. If you live in a generous welfare state, get neetbux, personal fortune or have rich parents (rich enough so you can live off the inheritence once they kick off the bucket) - yeah, it's probably sustainable. Otherwise think real hard about path of NEETdom, so you don't end up as a 40 year old with no money and no job experience once your mommy and daddy pass away.

If you're discriminated against by society in some way you should just neet. Imo most men should neet. Unless you have a good IQ and can snag a high paying job there's no reason not to.

I have seen the results of people getting ot neet nirvana. Ie a state disability pension. It isn't pretty. Especially if they never have had a real job. Just sleeping and playing games. And then hang out with friends. A life with a complete lack of meaning.
It sounds like nirvana but once you run out of games and movies and all your friends move on to other things.
He tried committing suicide while I knew him.
He just bought lots of stuff and if I needed something he probably had it in a pile somewhere.
Kids made fun of him. He ate shit and had health problems related to pizza.
Sooner or later you have to try to put your mark on the real world or drink some bleach.
That is just how we are wired I guess.
He gave me access to his Steam library. He had 2000 games in there and I couln't bring myself to play a single one of them. Just felt dirty.

Idk I think everyone would advocate for neetdom if money wasn't the problem

I am indifferent it’s not my job or desire to help others become neets when they wouldn’t do the same for me

I end up advocating for it but I probably shouldn't ... the less workers there are, the less neetbux there is to be given, until UBI is a thing. My stance is that UBI will eventually make 90% of the population NEETs by the end of the 21st century.

You should stay being a neet by all means until you figure out what do you really want to do in life, it's not risky if you can sustain it, wagies work dead end jobs all the time even with a college degree and sometimes they can even get fired if the economy gets bad. There is no "safe" route, life is all about luck.
