Most combat anime are so boring and cliche, but Baki always finds a way to make it interesting and engaging.

I think the author is truly a genius. He deserve a nobel prize.

I learned so much about the layers of combat from Yujiro Hanma. How M on M sex isn't always gay. Sometimes there's just a domination aspect to it. But that's just one of many examples.

There's nothing gay about making a man submit to your will.

Is the anime worth watching?
I’ve only read manga @rekamaður can probably give insight into which is better. Its plot, how the portray characters, and their tragedies/drama, is nearly unparalleled.
Hajime no ippo or ashita no joe? Which is better?
Id say they’re about equal. Yabuki Joe and Rikiishi mog majority of Ippo characters, but guys Ippo face are more memorable/impactful imo. Like Zangief or Ryo. Ippo is more combat focused, and in depth about boxing. Ashita no Joe pretty much revolved around those two aforementioned characters and their struggles of wanting to be champion boxers. More in depth to the point they feel like people, but a smaller cast than Ippo.

I'll watch Ashita no Joe and lyk if I think it matches the prowess of Baki

Is the anime worth watching?
Long story:
Basically, part 1 of the anime is sort of badly done compared to part 2
In terms of animation quality and everything
Part 2 also has one extra scene added at the end that changes the context of the whole ending (it's supposed to be ambiguous while the anime gives a clear implication)

However,
The anime also adds some extra scenes, whole new arc and a lot of content
The scans for the manga are pretty bad too. Was never officially translated to english and is kinda obscure in the west, so a lot of the scan quality is really bad. This is only for the first couple chapters tho. Iirc, volume 2 and 3 are bad but it gets way better after.

Hajime no ippo or ashita no joe? Which is better?
Ashita no joe is way better than hajime no ippo.
Ippo is like a good boxing manga, but nothing impactful. Anj is something that will impact you emotionally.
