Discussion The worst part about being NEET is - nobody values what you have to say about anything

I've started to notice this more and more. I've only been neet for a year or so but peoples attitudes have drastically changed. I get interrupted in conversations more, completely ignored when I am in the middle of making a point about something etc.

Being employed has value in itself but even then it is hierarchical. If I got a job as a construction worker for instance, I would have more 'social rights' than my old unemployed self, but I would be looked down on for being a lowly lemming, toiling away with a pickaxe whilst the bigwigs slurped lemon sorbet from a spoon in the sunshine.

Everyone is so money obsessed and if you aren't constantly acting as if you have brand new entrepreneurial ideas up your sleeve about everything in the entire universe then people will stop associating with you and think you aren't worth even spending time with.

You have to find new people to talk to or just not tell them you’re a Neet in the first place.
Kinda hard for them to not find that out tbh. I'm not gonna lie about being employed, the closest I got to that was telling someone I worked at a place longer than I actually did to make it seem like a normal temp contract.

It's funny how normies think they are better than neets or construction workers even if they have a job thats just editing some excel files all day
I agree. It's especially irritating when its a 'power to the people' type of normie who then shit talks the very people that allow him or her to drive on a road without blowing out a tire, or walk to their comfy office job through the street without walking through piles and piles of garbage everywhere.

SAD isnt it? Society only values opinions and values of others that add socities idea of Value to the equation. Money/property/ownership/authority etc.. A sad reality, and the reason my works are not appreciated in the manner deserving. I see literally everything, and my opinion seems worthless to this world, the unwashed masses are ignorant.

One thing I hate is how everyone asks about what you do for work as a way of judgment.

You are indeed correct, very good post. And it's not just employment, it's every shallow and meaningless thing that they can feel superior about, they use it to judge you.

Maybe you should try some new hobbies that are more prestigious? Read books and talk about them. Maybe write one. Maybe learn an instrument, learn how to draw. Plenty of things to take pride in other than a job.

I don't have your problem because I don't speak to anyone, ever. Only my parents. Seriously, don't think I've spoken irl to anyone other than my parents in several years.

In my experience it's not as easy as picking up new things to seem more interesting. Once people write you off as a jobless ne'er-do-well, anything you do is either shit or mediocre.

One example I will give is, I was at a basketball court with some people recently and we were trying to get the ball in the hoop without looking. When I managed it first time, there wasnt even a 'yaay' or any recognition whatsoever.

I'm not particularly close to these people and I've been slowly cutting them out of my life, but it's still brutal to see the tribalism taking place. Human beings aren't evil exactly, but I agree with the idea that there is an 'original sin' that seems to permeate all throughout your life. People will do or think or say evil things without knowing. It's obvious there is an evil nature to human beings.

I can relate to that, I was always a loner and I experience similar things. Still, you seem pretty well-adjusted since you talk to so many people and play basketball and such. There is hope for you yet, especially if you're under ~25. I hope you can get your life together good sir, before it's too late and you become me, some dude writing on a niche forum about his autistic daydreams of making $5k a month by lazily scamming for only 1-2 hours a day.

I'm under 25 but not far off it. I also hope to get my life together but I'm not sure how I'm going to cope with pretending to be well adjusted for the rest of my life. The only hobby outside of something on the computer that I enjoy is hiking and hillwalking. Other than that, I genuinely have no desire to do anything. Only reason I played basketball that time was because it was an opportunity to socialise but as always, the 'socialising' turns out to be a bragging/negging contest.

You genuinely sound like a smart guy, certainly more well-adjust than me sicne you hike and talk to people and such. I strongly strongly advise therapy, even though most people will denigrate that option. It can change your life, if you have the money for it. Especially if the psychiatrist gives you some pills for depression and such. Life can be so much better, don't settle for spending the rest of your life like this. Heal your mind and your life will heal in time.

I would recommend going for walks by yourself. It took me months to get out the house and be able to do it but just start slowly and eventually you will be out walking for hours a day. I walk for like 6/7 hours every day just listening to podcasts and audiobooks. If you have places nearby then I would recommend it.

Part of the reason I am doing it is that it has helped so much with mental health issues. I thought it was a meme but its not. You need sunlight.

I barely talk to anyone but my parents these days so not a problem for me. But people certainly will look down on you after learning you don't have a job. 'It's not normal, how can you be this way?'. They can't even enterntain the idea that you can live and not work. Years of wagie programming do the trick

Meh as long as I live a comfortable enough life on my own without anyone's support why would I care about what anyone has to say about me ?
