I wish there had been a clear, well-known path into research as a meaningful life purpose—something that would allow me to contribute to humanity, like working toward net zero. It’s the kind of journey I could’ve started preparing for back in 2016, during my early teens. But instead, I ended up at a crappy magnet high school.
If research institutes had actively recruited the way the military does, I probably would’ve jumped at the chance to join a meaningful cause—I might’ve never become a NEET. Honestly, even the military could’ve done a better job advertising itself, like sending emails or mail directly to homes. Back in my school, the only sign of military presence was people casually walking the halls in uniform.
