Modernity is a rupture initiated by the break with natural communal order in favor of a state apparatus. The modern state is premised on the project of social engineering and social eugenics.
This culminated through individual theorists such as Hobbes and Rousseau who constituted an understanding of Nature as a Darwinistic midden that needs to be tamed and recultivated by a centralized state controlled by intellectual elites.
This, by extension, led to the development of capitalism that is based on the accumulation of capital by a central elite class of executives given large magnitudes of resources by state authority.
