When did you give up on being nice?

What moment did you realise that being "nice" just wouldn't cut it?

I used to be someone who was very "kind" and "lovely" on the surface, until I came to realise that really wasn't who I am and I was just being very fake and superficial. I am probably one of the most fake nicest and superficial person one can meet IRL, and I must say that it works out well and gives me an ego boost when others are charmed by it.

there's different motivations for being 'nice'. you can be 'nice' because you want to get in a girl's pants, you can be 'nice' to certain people because you like them or may have some gratitude towards them(probably an acceptable form of nice). you can be 'nice' to people(this is my prob), becuase you fear the consequences and potential ass beatings or character assassinations if you were to be aggressive.

so, there's a manipulative nice, a friendly nice, a niceness that comes from timidness, and probably others.

same but it’s not really that fake

Probably 80% genuine but I’m very aware of the social benefit that comes with it so it feels fake

+ from personal morals I think being nice hopefully gives others more faith in the world and encourages them to be nicer. However, I also think you should negatively reinforce bad behaviors so idrk

I’m mostly still nice irl, because I feel like it just happens to be in my nature, but I don’t go out of my way for people the way I used to, unless it benefits me of course.

Yeah sounds just about right, maybe calling my nice nature "fake" is a bit of a stretch but when my mask falls off it falls hard.
