Comfy Which one do you prefer: Japanese RPG or Western RPG?

i like both styles, some of my favourite are the Persona series , Dragon Quest series , Tales series and from western The Elder Scrolls series , Witcher and Dark Souls

Japan in general puts teenagers as the main characters which is the most hated aspect and cliche when it comes to Japanese entertainment.

Depends, Elder Scrolls games are forever in my heart as my favorite ones but japanese RPG's are also nice.

Western ngl. I grew up with Gothic 1-2, Risen 1-3 and Skyrim and especially Risen and Gothic show off how much more immersive western Rpgs are and just how thick their atmosphere is, the studio that made these is also well beloved here in Germany and seen as cult . I weirdly enough never really played JRpgs tho, except for Xenoblade Chronicels x on the Wii U man I loved that game

JRPGs are too grindy for me, I am turned off by turn-based combat. I feel as if its a numbers game and to be good you have to memorize all the important stats, items, weapons, routes. Im too lazy for that.

The only JRPG i played is the toddler tier Pokemon but thats shit shouldnt even be counted as a game. It's mediocre. Modern WRPG are really bad like Cyberpunk, Mass Effect, Outer Worlds, Fallout 4, etc. It's turning into an action based game obsessed with voice acting. And the women are really ugly.

Overall JPRGs and WRPGs are like apples and oranges, even among their own niches. A SMT fan would say Persona is trash and vice versa. Many modern RPGs fans would not stand the old school CRPGs, and there's the in between like Morrowind and Gothic.

I would say my favorite WPRG is TES series. I've played them all except Arena and ESO. I fully expect TES6 to be disappointing.

Why doesnt Atlus just turn Persona into a full dating sim without RPG aspects? The story is pretty much a generic Shonen anyways.

Speaking of which how come more devs dont follow the success of Persona and making dating sim games? There's hardly any games for that market.
