While watching a YouTube video, it occurred to me that I rarely come across a video worthy of a like. Recently, I liked a video I found engaging and informative enough to deserve a like. We have the option to remove videos from my Liked playlist. I removed a couple, but if I had an option to undo what I did, I would have taken it.
It struck me that I had forgotten why I liked certain videos in the first place, but just because I forgot doesn’t mean I should remove them from my Liked playlist. The sunk cost fallacy made me continue anyway. Every major action like this should be undoable—it’s a computer
, after all, and actions should be reversible. It’s not as if I’m going to watch every single video in the Liked playlist that I no longer remember why I liked.
I removed one video simply because I had liked it superficially. Everything else I removed because I couldn’t remember why I had liked it. None of this is a good reason to remove a like from these videos. If the thought of removing liked videos hadn’t crossed my mind, all of this could have been avoided.
You would probably have to contact the support team, as that’s the only way to undo changes made to your account. It’s ridiculous that when you make changes, there’s no option to undo them immediately. If people are annoyed by a feature like that, they should be able to turn it off in the settings.
None of this would have happened if I hadn’t had the brain
response I did when the thought of removing liked videos crossed my mind. If I hadn’t had that strange brain
reaction, I could have just moved on from the thought, like I did last time. If this weird brain
response is some kind of OCD, I might need to get treatment to avoid doing impulsive actions that shouldn’t have happened in the first place.
