It is genre incomprehensible to even the non-NT anime watcher in west, they might confuse it with lesbian and troonfaggotry because most of western Yuri fanbase seems like troons. West are culturally underdeveloped when it comes to appreciating 2D women, like 10~15 years behind Japan.
No biological female will find any sort of appeal into Yuri, They will all go to BL instead which is boys version of Yuri. So Japanese Yuri fanbase are most male dominated space in current day.
and there are no troon in Japanese internet, one can still develop gender dysphoria if they have traumatizing childhood and AGP. but not in way they're psyop-ed into transitioning by jews media.

I have encountered a good handful of girls in the West who like yuri, but there's a lot of transpeople who like niche anime genres such as yuri whom I have come across.

Many shows focused around yuri are slop from what I've seen, but japanese yuri fanart of existing IP are usually of fine quality.
I've never watched these shows, and I'm not even particularly into yuri other than fanart of IP I really like.

I was talking about Yuri in Japan and not in west, Japanese Yuri fans are male with no exception.
Female are all into BL/yaoi instead. If there are male yaoi fan he is either a faggot or clueless teens who are just discovering what they like.
I don't know how it is in west, I only have knowledge of these fandom from imageboard and I have no idea what people in mainstream social media are watching other than current popular shonen. So I don't know how Yuri is marketed towards female.
All of them are marketed toward lonely inkwells desperate to see something pure and beautiful.

I have no idea. I only read ones that are related to touhou. Yuri doujins mostly consist of Touhou and other franchise that encourage fanwork like doujin to advertise their gacha game.
I think there are several manga magazine that features yuri manga. or You could look for one at Pixiv.

The western Yuri are very underdeveloped compared to Japanese ones, and it seems like they have no hope of developing it further in their future. since their fandom are infected to AIDS by inflating numbers of trannies.
There's lot more than just western part of this genre, but lot people just judge it by looking at part that they've only observed since they lack ability to navigate japanese sphere of creation.

The Lack of communication between japanese 2D creative sphere and western culture are clear from how westerners are angry at stuffs like Loli.
