I got this advice a lot as a teenager and even in my early 20's. Normally in response to a question asked out of anxiety about the future. Not being able to see a future, period; having no direction in life; feeling lost; obsessing about the past; having extremely low self esteem; and so on.
I think this is about the worst advice you can give a young person, and yet I still see people saying this. There's so much life advice one *could* give. Like, how to lower your expectations of people (so you don't resent them and end up burning your bridges), how to avoid burnout, how to cope with stress and anxiety...
It's just frustrating. I wish I trusted my own judgement more, before things became too late.
